Eco Tourism is used to describe low impact tourism where people travel and have little impact on the environment as well as the people, it may also mean that the people from the destination actually benefit directly from having tourists, as opposed to mass tourism which is often owned and operated by people from other countries and as a result any financial benefits leave the country very quickly. Here are five Eco Tourism destinations to consider:

Jamaica

Jamaica is a small, beautiful island in the Caribbean famed for its pristine mountains, known as the Blue Mountains. These are relatively untouched and add to the serene scenery of the island. There are also a large number of eco-lodges on the island, these range from bare-bones accommodation to vacation rentals with every amenity.

Costa Rica

This is one of the most well-known destinations for eco tourists and for good reason, it has rainforests, beaches, and beautiful rivers for all to enjoy. Along with this, it has a large array of wildlife to enjoy, such as monkeys, sloths, and jaguars. Costa Rica is also home to a large number of wildlife refuges.

Norway

Norway is one of the best-preserved countries ecologically thanks to strict regulations and laws put in place by the government in regard to fishing, whaling, and oil (which is its main industry!). It has the world-famous fjords (mountains with water passing between them), snowy peaks, and a variety of wildlife. You can explore Norway by hiking, taking a boat in the fjords or mountain biking over the rugged terrain.

India

While certainly not well known as an eco-tourists paradise, certain parts of India such as Kerala, a small state on the southwestern coast, have strict protection for the forests from being cleared and tourism officials are encouraging ecologically responsible travel to the area. This is one of the most unspoiled parts of the country and is home to many unique animal species and nearly a quarter of the country’s plant species.

Kenya

This is a country with a reputation for its vast plains and arid lands that are typical of Africa, it is also known for lions and elephants. One of the best-kept secrets about the country is the mountains, lakes, rainforests, and beaches. Kenya is a dream for eco-tourists due to the number of animal reserves and national parks where wildlife is protected. Little known to people are the pristine beaches and coral reefs on the coast, which are more than worth exploring.

From theme parks to Hollywood studios, Orlando’s Walt Disney World Resort is a town by itself. Guests are pampered with multitudes of resort options ranging in different prices, dining, water parks, and other magical recreation.

Pop Century Resort

Located in Lake Buena Vista, Pop Century Resort is one of the value-priced resorts in Disney World. The resort theme is based on the 20th century American Pop Culture – highlighting the central area which is called the “Classic Hall”. The area features a souvenir shop selling Disney merchandise, an eatery from where you can grab sandwiches to munch on the go, and a 1960s-themed bar. For the ravenous guests, most Disney resorts in Orlando have a pizza delivery service to guest rooms and the Pop Century Resort is no exception. This resort holds a high ranking simply because it’s affordable.

Art of Animation Resort

The Art of Animation Resort is recently built on the abandoned land that was originally intended to be an extension of Pop Century Resort. A family of six can have a lavish stay in the family Suites – inspired by four classics like Finding Nemo, Cars, The Lion King, and The Little Mermaid. In addition to the largest pool area in the Walt Disney World Resort, the property also offers a complimentary shuttle service to the theme parks, Downtown Disney as well as Orlando International Airport. With the Pixel Play Arcade and a playground, kids will stay busy in their own fantasy world.

Port Orleans Resort River Side

The Port Orleans Resort River Side is connected with the Port Orleans French Quarter as a twin resort that is remodeled to look like New Orleans and Old South. The three-storied buildings of the Magnolia Bend are a white-column mansion housing 256 rooms in each of its four buildings, and the Alligator Bayou is made of 16 two- buildings owning 64 rooms. Guests can enjoy Southern-inspired dining at the resort’s restaurant, Boatwright’s Dining Hall which faces the Sassagoula River. Keep in mind, that Boatwright is only open for dinner.

Animal Kingdom Lodge

Evoking the spirit of the African savanna that is home to 200 animals and birds, the thatched roof and African artifacts of the Animal Kingdom Lodge convey a relaxed ambiance. Imagine having breakfast from your balcony while you have a close encounter with the giraffes. The dining options include: Jiko and Boma featuring African-style cooking with a subtle touch of Europe, the Mediterranean Coast, and India; The Mara serves American food while Sanaa makes diverse cuisines inspired by the spice route of Europe, China, Africa, and India.

Bay Lake Tower at Contemporary Resort

Staying at the Bay Lake Tower at Contemporary Resort means guests can experience the monorail that heads to the Magic Kingdom, for free. This A-frame contemporary tower has a “deluxe” pricing, although guests can gain a 30% discount if the rooms are booked in advance. As one of the three original resorts from 1970, the property also has huge rooms compared to its counterparts in Walt Disney World. While you’re here, be sure to notice the multi-story mosaic designed by Mary Blair.

For many years, Disney aims to be the best place for a stay-cation where couples come in for honeymoons and kids come to play in this fairytale land.
